Dusting Crysis off and replaying it after a few years while I wait for Fallout 4. I'm using mods this time to enhance (?) the graphics (and playing on a harder level) and was tweaking stuff before I started, and this tutorial really helped. Those intro logos get old FAST. I know I'm wayyyyyyyyyyyy late to this party, but I still want to say thanks!

Nope - haven't updated it since it was first written. The Route53 domain alias stuff is definitely the way to go these days though. Happily using it on many sites, though haven't moved ec2instances.info over yet (the bucket name is currently "www.ec2instances.info" so I'll have to move it to an "ec2instances.info" bucket before Route53 will let me use it for the root domain alias).

Definitely a bit late on comments here, but I'm curious, have you touched this since your initial post (regarding S3/route53)? The reason I ask is that S3 now (and has for a while) supports root domain pointing, and the R53 UI works well to manage that if needed.

Also, your command "$ makemap -r hash client-info.db > client-info" is piping in the wrong direction. It needs to be as follows:

$ makemap -r hash client-info.db < client-info

you're passing:

:hosts => hosts,
:fqdn => node[:fqdn],
:hostname => node[:hostname]

into the template but then using:

<%= @hosts[fqdn][:ipaddress] %> <%= fqdn %> <%= @hosts[fqdn][:hostname] %>

did you mean to pass in :ipaddress ?

:max_hosts => n on a task does not apply to the -whole task-, it is like inherited by all of the individual jobs within the task.

So even if you have
task :foo, :max_hosts => 1
run "hostname; sleep 5"
run "date"
end

Each "run" will be executed serially on all hosts. The output of "date" will be the same.
